Dualit Toasters

Dualit – a line of toasters that works as hard as you do

Whether at home, or in a restaurant, a toaster has a fairly simple job to do.  Make toast.  Once you pop a slice of bread into one of the slots and start the toasting process, there’s a reasonable expectation of an evenly browned piece of toast after a couple of minutes or so.

You shouldn’t have to think about whether the resulting toast will be satisfactory, each time out.  All you want is for the toaster to do its job consistently over a period of many years.

Unfortunately, such is the state of modern toasters, and other small appliances in general, that such expectations are rarely met.  Whether this is due to poor design, workmanship, quality control, cost-cutting…or just planned obsolescence, it’s a sad state of affairs.

The brand name Dualit has become synonymous with rugged and reliable toasters for many years, although not as well-known in North America until the last decade or so.  The company first made its’ name in the commercial catering industries and restaurants, where a workhorse of a toaster was needed to work reliably, day in and day out.

Back in 1946, Max Gort-Barten came up with a simple, but rugged design for a six-slice toasting device.  This was aimed at the commercial market.  This was Dualit’s bread and butter for the following 2 decades.

Today, Dualit toasters are still hand-assembled in Britain to the same high standards as they always have.  Thus, the premium price is buying you, the customer, a measure of longevity and reliability, a rarity these days.

The current line of Dualit toasters have a cool, stylish retro look, something akin to the rugged toasters of the 1940’s and 50’s.  Beyond this however, the inner workings are quite modern.

They use patented Pro-Heat elements, which results in a much more evenly distributed heat.  They generally eschew fancy electronic bells and whistles, and micro-processor controlled toasting routines, and instead concentrate on performing their task as simply, and reliably as possible.

Indeed the main working parts, the elements and the mechanical timer in most models are replaceable, should they fail.  This makes the Dualit toasters a much more environmentally friendly alternative to throwing out a cheap toaster after a couple of years.

These Dualit toasters also come in a wide variety of bold and pastel color accents.

One of the Dualit toasters reviewed on the following pages will surely suit your needs.  You’re also sure to find a toaster that does its job exceedingly well, and will continue to do so for many years.
